This half-day workshop considers the new statutory guidance for Primary Schools from September 2020 and how relationship education can best be provided in primary schools.

Learning Outcomes

 

On completion of this workshop, staff will be able to:

  • demonstrate an understanding of how children learn about relationships

  • consider the pedagogy of relationship education in school

  • reflect on what a whole school approach to relationship education might look like in practice

  • explore ways to engage positively with parents with regard to relationship education

  • understand the opportunities for promoting the safeguarding of children through relationship education

  • practise strategies for developing healthy habits of relating in school 

  • understand their role in being a model for children

Workshop Overview

Course content includes:

  • What do we know about how children learn about relationships?

  • Emotional Health: what is it and why does it matter in RSE?

  • Everyday learning opportunities 

  • Building relationships with parents in this frequently sensitive area
