HAPPY

Healthy & Active Parenting Programme in the Early Years

This 4-day training course will provide practitioners with the skills, knowledge and resources needed to deliver the 12-session HAPPY group programme for pregnant women and their partners with the aim of reducing childhood obesity.

Six of the sessions take place during the antenatal phase and six take place post-natally, until the baby is nine months old.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of the training, practitioners will be able to:

  • explain to parents the importance of maternal diet during and after pregnancy and enable them to make changes if needed

  • support mothers in engaging in physical activity during and after pregnancy

  • explain to parents the benefits of breastfeeding and healthy infant feeding

  • support parents in providing opportunities for infant physical activity and avoiding sedentary behaviour
