Parent Support Skills Training

This two day training is for professionals wishing to enhance their skills and knowledge of how best to support parents to get the best out of family life. It is designed to help you encourage positive behaviour, improve parents' confidence and skills, and encourage a healthy approach to relationships.

The training is designed for professionals working to support parents, youth offending teams, extended schools and Children’s Centre staff

Benefits of training:

  • Skills in one-to-one mentoring to develop trust and build relationships with parents
  • Improve parents’ confidence and skills to encourage positive behaviour in children
  • Proven team-building experience
  • Personal and professional development
  • Includes The Parenting Puzzle book for each trainee
  • Develops a consistent approach to supporting parents across agencies

The Nurturing Programme encourages an approach to relationships that gives children and parents an emotionally healthy springboard for their lives and their learning. With emotional well-being at its core, the Nurturing Programme helps to reduce abuse, neglect, deviant behaviour and mental health problems. As a universal programme, it maintains the health of the whole population as well as impacting significantly on the most challenging.  The Nurturing Programme:

  • Promotes emotional literacy and emotional health
  • Enhances self-esteem, self-awareness and empathy
  • Develops communication and relationship skills
  • Provides effective strategies to encourage co-operative, responsible behaviour and manage challenging behaviour in children

The training reflects the Four Constructs on which the Nurturing Programme is based. Family Links trainers expect to demonstrate the Four Constructs in action throughout the training.

Trainees are involved in many activities, some of which are personally as well as professionally challenging, stimulating and rewarding. Everyone working with the Nurturing Programme needs to be reasonably comfortable with the emotional issues in their own lives, as well as those they may encounter in the lives of people they support.
The training is designed to be safe, informal and enjoyable.
