What is the Open College Network?

What the Open College Network says about our training...

"The External Moderator would like to commend the continuing success of this Programme in coordinating the delivery of the units in centres throughout the country and maintaining consistency and very high standards of assessment. To achieve this requires a very high degree of organisation, planning and forethought. These are considerable achievements by a dedicated team."

- Feedback from OCN Moderator, March 2008

Open College Network (OCN) Accreditation for Parents at Levels 1 and 2

The Open College Network offers credits for informal learning which can be built up to a nationally-recognised qualification. OCN works in partnership with a wide range of organisations including colleges, schools, employers and voluntary organisations such as Family Links, to develop relevant and accessible credit-based qualifications and courses for learners aged 14 upwards.

Parents attending the 10-week Nurturing Programme can get six credits at either Level 1 and Level 2 from the Open College Network. They have to achieve 60 hours of activities including:

  • 20 hours of group work (2 hours per week for 10 weeks)
  • 20 hours of practicing the strategies at home with the family
  • 20 hours of completing the portfolio

Parent Group Leaders wishing to offer OCN accreditation to parents need to

  1. be a trained and recognised Family Links parent group leader
  2. have facilitated at least 3 parent groups
  3. attend a 1-day OCN training course
  4. complete the parent accreditation booklet before the training course

The next training date is:
