How to access the Nurturing Programme

Training in the Nurturing Programme is available through regional teams trained to provide it in their area. To find out more about training in your area, please contact Family Links.

Before the Programme is introduced, a two-day inset training for all teaching and support staff is held, exploring the principles for implementing the Programme in the classroom, the playground and around the school. It also offers guidance on leading Circle Time...the Nurturing Programme way.

All children in every class then take part in weekly Nurturing Programme sessions each term. Sessions include games, songs, puppets, art activities and stories as well as topic exploration and discussion - movement and fun are important ingredients for success. Workshops for lunchtime supervisors are also held.

Regular reviews of the successes and challenges of implementing the Nurturing Programme are offered, as is individual classroom support for teachers new to Circle Time approaches.

The Nurturing Programme can also form part of the Extended Schools provision in your school. To find out more, please read our leaflet on the topic.
