What does Family Links do?
Family Links trains parenting support practitioners and school staff who want to use the Nurturing Programme in their work with parents and children. Find out more about training.

What does the Nurturing Programme do?
The Nurturing Programme fosters good relationships within families. It aims to break unhelpful patterns of intergenerational parenting behaviour by inviting parents and carers to think about how they were parented, the way it affected them and the way it might affect their children. They are also given a toolkit of positive parenting strategies to build on their own parenting skills.

Does the Nurturing Programme help improve adult relationships?
Although Nurturing Programme material is only currently targeted at adults’ relationships with children, much anecdotal evidence suggests that it helps improve relationships between adults too.

What is emotional health?
Being on good terms with our feelings so we can build on the positive ones and deal effectively with the challenging and negative ones.

What is emotional literacy?
Having the ability to understand and manage our own emotions so we can understand and empathise with others and manage relationships in balanced, effective ways. To see an example of how emotional literacy can be used in the Nurturing Programme visit the Netmums website.

How can I book myself onto a training course?
Have a look at our training pages, decide what training you are interested in and follow the instructions on each page on how to apply.

I’ve been on a Nurturing Programme 10-week parent course, can I train to facilitate groups myself?
Many parents attending a Nurturing Programme parent course have gone on to train to run groups themselves. We encourage interested parents to do the Nurturing Programme parent course twice to ensure you really get a good feel for the programme. Be aware that you need to run groups with a second facilitator. You also need to be aware of child protection procedures and have access to supervision when running groups. If you fit all these criteria, Family Links runs Parent Group Leader training courses in Hull and Oxford throughout the year. Please contact Rebecca Durrant for more details.

What is the Nurturing Programme for Schools?
A way of bringing calm, positive behaviour and enhanced learning to your school. From the moment a child enters the school environment, every adult he or she comes into contact with will use Nurturing Programme language and strategies. These help to improve the social skills, emotional well-being and behaviour of the child and can significantly improve learning ability and academic results. The Nurturing Programme is run through rolling 10-week courses of Circle Time in each class.

How can I arrange training for my school?
Contact Rebecca Durrant at Family Links.

How much does your training cost?
For all training costs please contact Rebecca Durrant.

Does Family Links run parent groups?
We do not run parent groups ourselves but train others to do so.
